Population

The Florence Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 143,078 in 1970 to 205,566 in 2010. That was an increase of 43.7 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 500 in 1970 to 4,672 in 2010. That was an increase of 834.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.3 percent to 2.3 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 40.9 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the major factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NDM rose to nearly equal B-D in adding population in the most recent period.
